Urban Design Evaluation

Assignment 01/02

For this assignment, I conducted an in-depth analysis of the Michael Fowler Centre within the Te Ngākau Civic Precinct in Wellington, New Zealand. The project emphasized the importance of urban design evaluations in understanding how urban environments are shaped and function. This process is crucial for learning about specific sites, developments, buildings, and open spaces to inform design work. By undertaking a context and site analysis of the Te Ngākau Civic Precinct within its broader central city environment (Part A), followed by a targeted urban design evaluation of the Michael Fowler Centre and its immediate surroundings (Parts B and C), I explored the critical role urban design advisors play in community and city-shaping processes. This assignment allowed me to delve into the intricacies of urban design and its impact on the functionality and aesthetic of urban spaces.
